Mil Tip: Transfer Attached Records

Do you need to transfer your attached record(s) to another bibliographic record? You can easily accomplish this by following these steps:

Pull up the record you want to transfer from. Then you switch to the “Summary” tab and then change the “View” to “All” to display all attached order, checkin and item records. After you’ve done that, you can select (i.e., highlight) the records you want to transfer.

After you’ve found the record you want to transfer to, you should have the bib record displaying in the upper half of the new window and the “Summary” of attached records below. In the middle, over toward the right side of the new window, you should see a “Use bib” button; clicking that tells the system to “use this bib to transfer to.”

Once you’ve clicked the “Use bib” button, it will ask you if you want to “transfer the records and retain the source bib” or to “transfer the records and delete the source bib.” You should respond accordingly, only deleting if appropriate and no other records are attached.

Mill Tip: Create a List of Items in Your Library

How do I pull out items that belong to all the locations in my library in one simple search?

Using Antioch as an example (modify for your own location codes), within Create Lists, enter the following search criteria:

  • Searching for item records
  • ITEM LOCATION between “an” and “anzzz”
  • Search

To arrange your list of items in the order they appear on the shelves, simply sort it by location first, and then by call number.

Mill Tip: Printing from Millennium Manual

Have you ever tried printing one page from the manual? You locate your information, select “Print”, walk over to the printer, only to find a small forest of trees in the print tray? You’ve gone and printed the entire chapter!

To avoid this situation, please take the following steps:

  • Using Firefox: locate the page, right click within the frame on the right-hand side, and choose This Frame > Print Frame.
  • Using IE: Locate your page and click on “Display” in the upper-right. Then from the IE toolbar, choose File > Print.

Committee Meeting Handouts

As you prepare your handouts and documents for the upcoming committee meetings, please keep in mind that you can send OPALHelp a copy to have posted to the corresponding committee group page. This will ensure your colleagues are ready to discuss the topic at hand, as well as, act as an archive for all meeting materials.

Mill Tip: How do I find MY statistics?

When sifting through the mass of statistical reports generated from the OPAL system, you are typically concerned with how your institution is doing. The data associated with your terminal numbers corresponds to the transactions happening at your institutions. Most reports can be built or narrowed by using this criteria.

Terminal numbers can be found in the system under Admin > Parameters > Circ > Statistical Group Maintenance.
